Tailoring Centre Opens for Differently Abled in South Bankura

Bankura, 24 May– A specialized tailoring centre for differently abled individuals officially commenced its training curriculum on May 24, 2026, at the Taldangra office of the 'South Bankura Jangamahals Prothibandi Kalyan Samiti'.
The vocational initiative serves an initial batch of 20 differently abled students from the region, offering structured skill development aimed at securing long-term financial independence. Established through a partnership between the Don Bosco Human Resource Development (HRD) Mission Outreach Program and international sponsor Petra Theiner of Sudtirol, Italy, the centre operates out of a permanent facility previously built by the mission and inaugurated earlier this year on January 31.
The training framework is equipped with four operational sewing machines and is led by a qualified instructor who is also differently abled. Under the current syllabus, vocational classes will be conducted twice a week over a fixed six-month period to build foundational tailoring skills. Upon completion of the semester, candidates will undergo a practical examination, and the Samiti has committed to awarding a brand-new sewing machine to every successful graduate to directly facilitate home-based self-employment.
The launch event was coordinated by Samiti President Sailen Barui, a local school teacher who is himself differently abled, alongside regional committee members and social welfare stakeholders. Organizational representatives stated that the core objective of the facility is to introduce structured technical training to a heavily underserved demographic, promoting the dignity of labor and creating immediate economic opportunities. The inaugural ceremony concluded with an orientation brief for the new trainees and their families regarding the long-term logistical support available through the joint mission program.
